What Longbridge does as a lender and servicer

Many reverse mortgage lenders send your loan to another company for servicing after you close. When a lender also services, it can keep your loan. Your yearly statement and draws come from the same company that set up your line of credit. Early on, confirm who'll handle your servicing and how quickly a line-of-credit draw reaches you.

Ways to compare a Longbridge quote

Longbridge posted a median home value of $403,500 and a median starting rate of 5.75%. Your offered margin drives the rate, so ask for it on paper and then compare it against one or two more quotes. A HUD-approved counselor can go over them with you.

Should you pick Longbridge Financial for your reverse mortgage?

Service isn't measured in HUD's loan files, but the data does compare this lender's loans with those from other companies.

Points in its favor

  • Out of 1,705 HECM lenders, it sits at rank 3 with 2,116 loans across every state and DC; only two others did more.
  • Its median starting rate of 5.75% is the same as the 5.75% median across all HECMs in those months.
  • With 2,116 loans over 11 months, the lender is tracking toward roughly 2,308 this fiscal year, topping the 2,258 closed in fiscal 2025.

Things to verify before you sign

  • Home purchases accounted for only 2.1% of its HECMs, next to 5.5% for the industry. If you're buying a home, ask how many purchase loans it closes.
  • The counts from HUD tell you how many loans a lender closes, not the experience those borrowers have. Look over its CFPB complaints and ask who'll be handling your loan afterward.

The HECM doesn't vary by lender. HUD's insurance, fee caps and lending limit cover every one of them, you must first consult a HUD-approved counselor, and your heirs get to keep the home by paying 95% of the appraised value or the balance, whichever is the smaller amount (what happens after death).
